You're here! I've been waiting....

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

What took you so long!? I mean....welcome to my page! Since this is my first ever blog post, I figured I would introduce myself and let you in on what you've gotten yourself into. So, I'm Dave and I'm awesome. That's all you really need to know.

Okay, let me stop haha. If you haven't figured it out by now, I am definitely one who loves and embraces sarcasm and I tend to write quite conversationally (for better for worse). Let's try this again. So, my name is Dave and I wanted to create my own personal film blog because I love films, specifically Arab/Middle Eastern/SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) films.

I started working with SWANA films at my current place of employment, the Arab American National Museum (AANM), which is an amazing institution and the first and only institution in the United States that is dedicated to sharing the history, culture and contributions of Arab Americans with the world. I have been curating their Arab Film Festival since 2015 and have loved every minute.

As an Arab American myself, I feel it is so important for the world to watch, engage, learn from and understand Arab cinema. There are far too many stereotypes about my community and just general questions that so many people have. If you don't personally know any Arab Americans and have never studied the topic in or out of school, odds are you don't know much about the Arab American community or the Arab countries themselves that span across North Africa and South West Asia. Film is one of those great mediums that is both engaging and educational. Film is an easy, digestible way to educate yourself about a specific topic or community. My blog aims to not only showcase amazing SWANA films, but also as a tool to help educate folks, supply some amazing films that folks should watch, uplift SWANA artists doing amazing work, and create a safe space for SWANA community members and non-community members alike to discuss film.

I hope this blog will serve not only as a space where I can share my thoughts, feelings and passions for all different types of SWANA films, but also as a space for others to share their thoughts on film. I see my blog as a safe space to discuss films, share reactions, make connections and most importantly, having fun!

Thanks for stopping by!
